Antiqua Tours is proud to announce its new
Lazio Initiative. This is a new set of itineraries that will highlight the culture, food and wine of Lazio to people visiting Rome or who already live here. We will be planning excursions to small towns, wine producers and farms to promote Lazio and all of the hidden treasures in the region.

We are starting this initiative this June with a special visit to the coastal region of Latina in the Lepine hills. Our first visit will take place on Sunday, June 17th. We are inviting you to join us for a full day of medieval culture, wine tasting and lunch. We will leave Rome in the morning at 9am on Sunday, June 17th. From our meeting point we are going to head down to the province of Latina where we will visit the medieval town of Sermoneta. Sermoneta is a walled up hill town that overlook the province and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a town built of stone and was home to the Papal and feudal Caetani/Annabaldi families. On our visit to Sermoneta, we will enjoy a guided visit with Ettore to the massive Caetani Castle, which was built in the 1100s by the Annabaldi family. We will also visit the 13th c. Romanesque church.

From Sermoneta will head north to Cori where we will have a private visit of a local organic winery and enjoy lunch. We will first tour the cantina and vineyards where we will learn about the hard work that goes into producing wine. This winery is special not only because they maintain an organic vineyard, but also because they are making an effort to use only autochthonous grapes. These are grapes that are local to the region such as Nero Buono and Bellone. After our vineyard tour we will enjoy a wonderful lunch prepared specially for us at the vineyard. The lunch will consist of local delicacies that are made in/near the town of Cori, a real
ciociaria experience. If the weather is good we will enjoy our lunch on their outdoor terrance where we can appreciate the view over vineyards, olive groves and the sea. During lunch we will have the opportunity to taste and enjoy 5-6 wines from the winery.

After our wonderful lunch, we will then finish off our day with a tour of the town of Cori. Cori is slightly south of the Castelli Romani in the province of Latina. Cori is a town that predates Rome and was situated in the heart of the Latin League. It was fully incorporated into Rome in the 1st c. BCE. It is now a wonderful medieval treasure where will visit various sites such as the Temple of Hercules (early 1st century BC) which is a national monument of Italy, Sanctuary of Madonna del Soccorso, the remains of the Temple of Castor and Pollux (a 1st century BC restoration of the 5th century BC sanctuary) as well as discuss the Polygonal walls.
From there we will stop at a local café before embarking on our journey back to Rome.
